CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card ) is a nationally accredited course.

General construction induction training (GCIT) provides important foundational knowledge of work health and safety laws, common site hazards, and information on how to control risks in the construction industry.

This course is currently delivered via face to face training only and runs for approximately 4.5 – 6hrs.

This card was formerly known as the blue card.

This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

To obtain a general construction induction card (white card) you will need to undertake training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that conducts the general construction induction training. (unit of competency – CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry). Once you have successfully completed the training, the RTO will issue evidence (Statement of Attainment) that you have completed the training and the GCIT card (white card). You should keep evidence of completion of training as it may be required if you need to replace your card in the future. (Replacement fees apply).

This course requires  a USI number prior to commencement of training, and also 100 points of ID as stated by WHS. Failure to produce any of this paperwork will result in a certificate not given until it is produced.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) authorises registered training organisations (RTOs) to issue and replace general construction induction training cards (white cards). RTO’s must enter into an agreement with WHSQ before delivering the training in Queensland.

RTOs must comply with the Conditions of agreement for registered training organisations to issue general construction induction training cards.
